Lip Conditioning Beauty Basic

Into ...
Your lips are not only one of your most prominent features, they're also one of your most
sensitive area's.

They're made up of thin skin and millions of nerve endings, but they have no natural oil glands which is why they're prone to drying out and that's why it's so important to treat them with care.

Some lipsticks and glosses can also dry your lips out along with environmental factors like cold weather and air conditioning.

LIP TIPS

* Chapping You need a balm with an SPF factor and ingredients like zinc oxide to protect from wind, sun and cold weather. Some lipsticks also come with built-in sun protectors.

* Split and Dry Lips Use a moisturising lip balm containing emollients such as Shea or cocoa butter to replenish dry and split lips. Apply it just over the edge of your lips and always dab on a layer before bedtime.

* Cold Sores If you suffer from the occasional cold sore, use a medicated treatment and apply your lipstick sparingly with a small cotton bud to prevent possible re-infections.

* Deeply Lined Lips Some balms contain thickening ingredients that fill in lines and make your lips look plumper and smoother.

Before you go to bed, pierce a capsule of vitamin E supplement and smooth it into dry lips for a super-softening treat.

LIP CONDITIONING STEP BY STEP

Step 1: Place a small blob of moisturising lip balm on your finger and smooth it evenly over your lips.

This will ensure that your lips are protected and soft when you exfoliate and that the skin doesn't get dragged or damaged.

Step 2: Take a soft toothbrush or child's toothbrush and move it gently over your lips in small circular movements. Continue until you have smoothed away any flaky or chapped skin on your lips. Be care not to apply to much pressure or you will damage your lips.

Step 3: When you've finished exfoliating your lips re-apply a small amount of the same lip balm and slather it over your lips. Blot off and excess oils with a tissue. Let the balm sink in for about five minutes before applying lipstick or gloss.

Do's and Dont's

Do try a tinted lip balm for moisturisation with a touch of colour.

Don't lick your lips, saliva will dry them out even more.

Do let lip balm sink in for five minutes before applying lipstick or gloss.

Don't wear matte lipstick on dry lips, they'll look worse.

Do apply lip balm regularly, don't wait until your lips are dry.

Don't use grainy exfoliants on your lips, they're too rough for your lips.
